    • This is what the IB CAS programme looks like when students take the wheel.

On Thursday, 24th April, Year 12 students Yuly and Bianca led YCIS Chongqing's first interschool service-learning project at our sister School, Yew Wah International Education Kindergarten. They read engaging stories to K5 students and led a hands-on activity based on the book. The atmosphere was filled with warmth and joy as our students connected with the youngest learners through laughter and genuine interaction. This milestone project showcased everything CAS values: service learning, community engagement, student leadership, and collaboration.

      But they didn't stop there.

One day later, Yuly, Bianca, Aaron, and Qiqi visited the Changing Children's Hospital to bring art and joy to children battling cancer. Yuly led a therapeutic Dongguan Sand Painting (东莞沙画) activity—a traditional Chinese art form using coloured sand, chosen for its calming and creative nature. The atmosphere was magical as students worked side by side with the children, adapting to each child's needs and offering encouragement.

For the children, it was a morning where they were not defined by their illness, but simply as artists. As Yuly reflected, "We didn't change their diagnosis, but we gave them a moment of happiness."

Two days. Two communities. One unwavering commitment to service. In partnership with Amazing Grace for Kids, the school looks ahead to regular visits, creative workshops, and fundraising. A heartfelt thank you to Yuly, Bianca, Aaron, and Qiqi for representing YCIS CQ with grace, empathy, and strength.
