This academic year saw YCIS Chongqing introduce a Scholarship Programme, this is a merit-based award that recognises the highest level of academic achievement, leadership, and service.
It targets highly motivated and talented students from around the world who can benefit from a bilingual international education with a strong creative element. A Yew Chung Yew Wah scholar is committed to the pursuit of excellence and honouring the vision and values of the school.
The goal of the Yew Chung Ye Wah Scholarship Programme is to recognise and reward those students who demonstrate excellence in a range of areas including, but not limited to academics, serving the school and its community, creativity, critical thinking, and leadership.
This year saw five applications for the Scholarship Programme, the application expectations are extensive and rigorous, with students needing to demonstrate commitment, independence, and resilience in order to complete this process, therefore all five applicants deserve much praise for completing their application.
After reviewing the applications against the criteria within our policy, the successful students were invited to interview. The students dealt with this situation with calmness and maturity answering the challenging questions posed by various school leaders. All of these students acquitted themselves extremely well and we were very proud of them.
Unfortunately not everyone who applies for the Scholarship Programme will be awarded a scholarship as it is essential, we uphold what a scholarship stands for. We are absolutely delighted to announce that the following two students were awarded scholarships were this year:
Ryan Gong, Year 8, was awarded the ‘Talent in Mathematics Award’. Ryan will receive this scholarship for a period of 1 academic year, starting in August 2022.
Cherry Pan, Year 12, was awarded the ‘IBDP Award’. Cherry will receive this from August 2022, for the remaining period of study at YCIS Chongqing.
Many congratulations to both Ryan and Cherry, we wish them well and hope that this recognition continues to inspire them to be the best they can be.
