    • Once again, the students as YCIS Chongqing came together to celebrate World Book Day! Students responded to the dressing up day competition with enthusiasm-celebrating reading by dressing up as characters from their favorite literature.

In a special assembly, those judged the best dressed from each class were rewarded with a book! Each house also took part in a house quiz: testing their knowledge of literature.

During the book swap activity, the children discussed their favorite book from home with their peers. The range of literature children were exposed to was extremely diverse, from much loved modern classics, to classic fairytales, to Greek mythology.

The children had great fun and were given opportunities to explore a range of texts and share their love for books.

Reading is vital to improving children’s academic attainment and many studies show that children who read for a significant amount of time each day attain better grades in all academic subjects than those who do not.

Reading exposes children to new ideas, it helps to develop critical thinking skills which are essential for success in later life, it also develops social skills as children learn to empathize with those in different situations. Regular reading is massively beneficial to our students.

At YCIS Chongqing we hope that World Book Day serves as a reminder to our students to push themselves to read even more than they do now.
