    • In March 2023, YCIS Chongqing hosted the inaugural YCYW 90th Anniversary Gala Night. With the support of many parents and friends, we raised a substantial sum of money for our student-led projects known as 'Seeds of Hope'. Our hearts united in support of our future generations' education, and on the night of the Gala, we planted our first 'seed' together.

The YCIS Chongqing Seeds of Hope Annual Fund is a unique fundraising program managed by the Institutional Advancement Office. What sets this fund apart is its direct investment in innovative, experimental, creative, and service-oriented ideas and dreams proposed by students. Through imaginative projects led by students, we aim to enhance the YCIS experience and make meaningful contributions to the world around us.

During the first semester of the 2023-2024 school year, applications were invited for the use of the "Seeds of Hope" annual fund in the Secondary and Primary schools. Students were encouraged to take the lead in projects and initiatives, supported by teachers, that fostered real-world problem-solving and enriched learning experiences in areas such as Creative Thinking and Expression, and Community Partnerships and Development.

Nine creative initiatives were proposed by our enthusiastic student members, and in January, project interviews were conducted by the applicants. They presented their project descriptions, anticipated impact, timelines, team roles, and budget breakdowns. The fund panel, consisting of school leadership team, parent representatives, and community donors, challenged the applicants with insightful questions.

It was inspiring to witness the excitement, authentic sharing, and open dialogue from our students. The wide range of project proposals speak to the diversity of our students’ unique talents and interests. In light of their remarkable ideas and creativity, we are thrilled to announce the approval of the following outstanding projects:

      • Anti-Menstrual Shame Project
      • Chinese Reading & Writing Club
      • Well-being Wanderers
      • Exercise and Sports Science Lab Equipment
      • Project Aquarium: Exploring Underwater Ecosystems
      • Print Pioneers

We received messages of support from parent representatives and community donors, expressing their enthusiasm for the projects and compliment for the students.

Mr Meng: “As a parent representative, I had the privilege of attending the first round of interviews for the school's Seeds of Hope Annual Fund on January 22. I witnessed the presentations of five remarkable projects from students in the Primary and Secondary divisions. The experience had a profound impact on me. The fund holds immense value for all stakeholders, as it empowers students to serve their community and make a meaningful difference.”

Mr Tang: “It's impressive to see students of all grade levels passionately present their projects, even if it's a simple desire for better football equipment. Their ability to articulate their ideas in a systematic manner is a valuable exercise, honing their expression, attitude, and professional knowledge. These experiences serve as beneficial practical learning opportunities. Students are the future, and while they may still be immature, their ideas shine brilliantly, offering us a great deal of inspiration and enlightenment.”

Ms Yang: “The nine projects that applied for the Seeds of Hope Annual Fund cover diverse fields, including science, humanities, and social care, highlighting innovation and inspiration. It was clear that the students had invested considerable effort in researching their projects, and their passionate presentations were truly impressive. ”

We eagerly await the progress of these projects and will keep the community updated. Together, we believe that our YCIS Chongqing community will continue to plant more 'seeds' of hope for our future.
