This year, the Chinese Reading and Writing Club at Yew Chung International School Chongqing has been on fire! Our “Five-Minute Chinese Classics” series has sparked a real passion for traditional culture among students and teachers. From reciting timeless texts to designing creative folder covers, we’ve infused our campus with cultural energy.
Throughout the year, the club collaborated with the school cafeteria to design a series of posters highlighting traditional Chinese virtues, including Diligence, Frugality, Humility, and Faithfulness. The club also expanded its activities by launching a school-wide Chinese folder design competition. The competition encouraged students to combine classic texts with everyday life and express their understanding of traditional culture through creative designs. The activity received an enthusiastic response from students, who submitted many innovative works.
Students from the Chinese Reading and Writing Club also invited Polish students and teachers to join the Chinese folder design activity during their visit. This cross-cultural exchange not only fostered friendships between students from the two countries but also allowed the Polish visitors to experience the unique charm of Chinese culture, exceeding all expectations.
Among the many outstanding entries, Year 10 student Eason Ho stood out with her unique creativity and profound understanding, winning the first prize. Her work will be featured as the cover for the Chinese folders in the middle school section next year. “This activity has been enriching. I hope my design can spark students' interest in traditional culture and help them appreciate the beauty of language,” says Eason.
The student leaders of the club expressed great satisfaction with the students' active participation. “This is not just a successful event but a sign of the vibrant growth of Chinese culture within our school. It also motivates us to continue working hard to share the beauty of Chinese culture with more students,” says Year 12 student Franchesca, the club president.
Through this series of carefully planned activities, the Chinese Reading and Writing Club has not only provided a platform for students to showcase their creativity but also created a rich cultural atmosphere on campus. Looking ahead, we will continue to explore new ways to help traditional culture take root, grow, and flourish in our school.
