    Happy Lantern Festival

    • The Lantern Festival is a Chinese festival celebrated on the fifteenth day of the first month in the lunar calendar. It marks the final day of the traditional Chinese New Year celebrations. It is the first full moon in the Chinese New Year, so people like to celebrate the full moon and share best wishes for the New Year.


      This year the Lantern Festival is on February 11, YCIS Chongqing Chinese teachers have prepared three different activities for the Primary students to experience this traditional festival. The three activities are guessing lantern riddles, making rice dumplings and lantern festival cards.


      Primary Year 4 - Year 6 students have completed their activities on February 9, and Year 1- Year 3 students have done so on the February 10. All of the students made rice dumplings and lantern festival card with the teachers, and they took their rice dumpling and card home to share with their families. Many students earned a beautiful lantern as the prize for answering riddles. The students had a wonderful time and enjoyed this festival; we hope all families have a happy lantern festival!


      We will have different activities related to Chinese traditional festivals over the year including the Dragon Boat Festival and Mid- Autumn Festival. This will allow students to experience Chinese Culture year-round.
