    • At YCIS, our vibrant art programme is complemented by our Artist-in-Residence (AIR) Programme, which provides our students with the opportunity to interact with professional working artists on campus. Students are able to learn about the dynamic art scene in China and worldwide, and develop creatively by learning techniques directly from these artists.

Recently, YCIS Chongqing students in the secondary programme have been incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to work with a visiting ‘Artist in Residence’, Ms. Elizabeth Briel, over the past ten days.

Elizabeth is an artist, with great experience in the US, painting scenes, murals and large effects in private homes, restaurants and museums. Most recently, Elizabeth has worked as an artist in schools across the Yew Chung Educational Foundation. She gains inspiration from the diverse city of Chongqing and the cultural nuances of China.

Our Year 10 and 11 students have been actively engaged in the design process that was required in the creation of a large scale mural, while developing their painting skills in this team-based activity. The mural is comprised of four panels, measuring 2.5m X 1.5m, which will adorn the walls of the Great Hall. The theme of autumn and spring leaves was inspired by the surrounding greenery at YCIS Chongqing, with some creative components included from structural elements identified within the surrounding school environment.

We know that students, parents and staff will be able to enjoy this mural for years to come as we celebrate student learning in the Great Hall.
