We are thrilled to share exciting news from our YCIS Chongqing community!

Dr. Timothy Lynch, our Western Co-Head of ECE and Primary, has been elected Secretary General of the International Alliance of Health, Physical Education, Dance and Sports (IAHPEDS). He attended the 3rd IAHPEDS World Congress in Istanbul in June 2026, where the appointment was confirmed, and will officially take on the role in January 2027 — a truly international honour that underscores both his professional distinction and the growing global influence of YCIS educators.

This year’s Congress, hosted by the Turkish Olympic Committee and supported by the National Paralympic Committee and leading Turkish universities, drew 211 scholars from 15 countries, along with more than 80 students, coaches, and athletes. With 173 scientific contributions presented, the event served as a premier platform for advancing dialogue in health, physical education, and sports.

As Secretary General-Elect, Dr. Lynch played an active role in the academic organisation of the Congress. He valued the spirit of cross-cultural collaboration throughout the event, and noted that IAHPEDS stands as a truly transnational academic community. The success of the Congress has reinforced his confidence and commitment as he prepares to take on leadership of the Alliance.

Dr. Lynch is a highly accomplished educator from Australia, holding a Doctor of Education from Australian Catholic University, dual Master’s degrees from Deakin University and the University of Notre Dame Australia, and dual Bachelor’s degrees in Education and Teaching. With over 30 years of international experience, he has served as deputy principal, deputy headteacher, and senior lecturer across the UK, the Middle East, and Asia.

Since joining YCIS Chongqing in 2024, Dr. Lynch has brought fresh pedagogical insight and a global perspective into our Early Childhood and Primary settings. His professionalism and passion continue to inspire students and colleagues alike. We are incredibly proud of his achievement, and we look forward to seeing him share YCYW’s educational wisdom on a global stage.
