On Friday, our school came together for an inspiring English public speaking contest that highlighted the creativity, confidence, and courage of our students. From Year 1 to Year 6, every student participated by writing and presenting their own pieces, as part of our Writers Workshop approach. This method encourages students to find their unique voice and connect personally with their topics.
The contest was a culmination of their hard work, with four students from each Bilingual learning community advancing to the finals. The variety of topics was impressive—ranging from persuasive arguments about school improvements to heartfelt reflections on personal experiences and school trips. Particularly moving were the Year 6 speeches, which offered nostalgic reflections on their primary school journey.
It was truly inspiring to witness the bravery of our students as they stood before their peers to share their thoughts. Their performances were a testament to their hard work and growth, both as speakers and as young individuals. Congratulations to the students who received awards:
Year 1 Rosie Xu
Year 2 Aiden Cheng
Year 3 Helen Wei
Year 4 Aiden Lau
Year 5 Olivia Borengasser
Year 6 Frances Wang
Public speaking is an important part of our YCYW character education, and our school continues to provide platforms to strengthen communication skills. Through opportunities like TEDx CCA, bilingual poetry, Chinese public speaking, and now English public speaking, our students are growing into confident communicators.
More than just a competition, the event was a celebration of our school spirit and community. We look forward to more opportunities to support and celebrate our students’ voices in the future.
