To celebrate the 25th World Italian Language Week, Professor Letizia Rustichelli from Sichuan International Studies University visited YCIS Chongqing to share her knowledge of Italian language and culture with students in Years 4, 5, and 6.
Students explored familiar Italian words like pizza, gelato, Vespa, pasta, vino, calcio, Torre di Pisa, and cappuccino. Using pictures and their knowledge of English and the world, they made meaningful connections to the Italian language.
The ingredients of a Margherita Pizza include mozzarella cheese (white in colour), tomato paste (red in colour), and basil (green in colour). Red (rosso), white (bianco), and green (verde), the same colours as the Italian flag (also referred to as tricolore). They also learned about how the Margherita Pizza was named after Margherita.
It was a joyful, sensory-filled activity of language, food, and tradition. We can’t wait to bring more global learning moments to our classrooms!
