    • Over October 26 -29, YCIS Chongqing hosted its first ever volleyball tournament and also its first ever ACAMIS Silver Division Tournament. The tournament comprised of four other international schools from China (Leman International School (LIS), Chengdu; Beijing International Bilingual Academy (BIBA); Yew Chung International School of Shanghai (YCIS SH) and The International School of Dongguan (ISD) with players from all over the world competing. The tournament featured student athletes playing in at least five matches across two and a half days. It was fantastic to see the high level of play from all teams and the noticeable improvement of teams from the first match to the playoff stages of the tournament.

The competition proved to be tough for both the YCIS Chongqing Girls and Boys teams, however, both the Boy’s and Girl’s teams showed great commitment and their spirit and determination made YCIS proud. For the girls, the tournament started off in excellent fashion, comfortably beating the BIBA team in their first match. For the remainder of the Round Robin stage, however, our girls found themselves on the losing side of some very close encounters. This would see them finish in 4th place going into the playoff stages of the tournament.

Our boys unfortunately, started the tournament off on the back foot, with a narrow loss to the BIBA boys. From here on out it proved to be tough work for the boys and despite a huge effort from them and some close losses, they would finish the Round Robin stage in 5th place.

Overall a huge thank you is extended to our YCIS Parent Organisation and parent body for making the tournament the success that it was. Without the snack table with eats and refreshments, and the social dance and the constant support of our teams, it would be impossible for an event of this nature to be such a success and it is fantastic that YCIS has been blessed with such a supportive parent body.

A special thank you should also go out to our YCIS staff for all the work, effort and support leading up to and throughout the duration of the tournament.

Students will soon be in preparation for the ACAMIS Basketball tournament, which YCIS will be attending at the end of January in Beijing. We hope that we can come back with some silverware from this tournament.
