    • YCIS Chongqing is excited to have been recently authorised as an IB World School, and our Year 12 students are enrolled in the IB Diploma Program (IBDP), a broad, integrated, two-year course of study encompassing six different subject groups and the IB Core, a unique framework in international secondary education.

Group 5 of IB subjects is the subject of Mathematics, offering three courses: Higher Level Math (HL), Standard Level Math (SL) and Mathematics Studies (SL). Consequently, all students have options to choose either a Math course at a suitable level to develop their curriculum profile.

The Standard Level class has been studying quadratics. On Wednesday afternoon, students gathered in the school courtyard armed with their mathematical knowledge. By applying this knowledge from the classroom, students investigated a stream of water, representing it’s path by a quadratic equation. They teamed up with their peers to collaborate, measure, and sketch the parabolic curve they were investigating.

Students are so engaged and involved in this practical approach, as they apply mathematics to real life examples. One things for certain, they will no longer look at water a fountain the same way again. They will, if they haven’t already, see that mathematics is all around us.
