    • With only three weeks preparation, our high school boys and girls were off to Chengdu to represent YCIS Chongqing in the ACAMIS Silver Division soccer tournament from April 14 – 17. Despite the fact that our teams had no match practice and limited time to bond as a team, they still managed do YCIS proud and play a number of excellent matches.

Whereas the boys had a bit of a slow start, ruing missed opportunities and bad luck in their first game loss, the girl’s team still however, managed to come through this day undefeated. The boys were on fire and learned from the previous day, comfortable winning all their games as well in day 2. With a 5th place out of eight strong and experienced teams, the YCIS boys can be extremely proud of their result. After winning their last round robin match, the girls finished first, giving them a favourable position going into the finals. The final was a hard fought encounter, but Kunming International School could not keep up with our dominant YCIS girls. With some excellent goal keeping from Chloe Miller, the YCIS girls managed to maintain their clean sheet and were awarded as ACAMIS Silver Division Champions for a second year in a row.

After the games were played it was time for the banquet and awards in which Jacquelyn Ly, Julia Miller, Caroline Miller (for the girls) and Song Minsuk (for the boys) were nominated to be in the ACAMIS All Star Team. The whole night had a great atmosphere, with students mixing with all the other schools, great dancing by the coaches and finished off with the beautiful vocals by the Sukan twins.

The tournament makes us extremely proud of our students. Not only because of their athletic performances, but most of all their great characters. We are looking forward to next year, where we will be guaranteed playing in all ACAMIS Silver Division tournaments.
