    • Shiver me timbres, Year 2 Learning Community has been turned into a Pirate Ship!

On Friday, January 17, all Year 2 students came to school dressed as pirates for a day of pirate fun! This was an introduction into their new topic of Oceans and Seas, which they will be exploring and studying over the coming weeks. A pirate day was chosen to inspire the learners and begin to engage them into this topic.

Within the day the children consolidated their understanding of division through sharing the treasure found. While they were on the treasure island, they worked in groups to work out clues through the use of technology and began to learn about the history of pirates. This week the children will uses their experience to write descriptive stories based on pirates.

The children had great fun creating their own pirate name, designing their own pirate flag and exploring the pirate ship. Throughout the day the children had to walk the plank, if they broke the pirate code. They also learnt how to speak like a pirate and enjoyed beginning to explore our new topic. All children are excited to inquire further into this topic.
