Meeting with Our New Staff
Coming from UK, Mr Luke Hooman joined YCIS in Aug 2019 as a Primary teacher. He finished his Bachelor's Degree reading Journalism and Spanish at the University of Stirling in 2010 and in 2016 completed his post graduate diploma at the University of Dundee in Primary Education. Before joining YCIS, Mr Hooman had worked in different primary schools and education organizations in Spain, China, and Scotland. He also has accreditation as a football coach and after two years coaching with Kinross Colts JFC, now coaches the YCIS SCISAC team.

The YCIS Chongqing community were treated to another wonderful Parkour performance on Wednesday 30th October, in the School Gymnasium.
Phonics Teaching at YCIS Chongqing
Reading can change lives and YCIS Chongqing is committed to improving the teaching of reading. In the UK, Sir Jim Rose published a report (2006) on ‘An Independent Review of the Teaching of Early Reading’. This emphasised that beginner readers of English should be taught using a systematic approach to phonics as the prime means for teaching children to learn to read.
The Three Little Pigs
For the past few weeks, Year 1 children have been exploring the story of “The Three Little Pigs”. They were excited when they have discovered some wolf footprints in the classroom and followed an aerial photo map to find some mysterious materials – straw, sticks and bricks. Then, children learnt the story with actions using the Story Telling technique.

Whether it is verbal, physical, online or in-person, bullying has a significant impact on a child’s life well in to adulthood. By making small, simple changes, we can break this cycle and create a safe environment for everyone. Because together, we can challenge bullying. Change starts with a conversation. It starts with checking in. It starts with work together.
A Technology Free Day
On Monday Oct 21, the Year 5 Learning Community had a day with NO technology at all.

Celebrating Founder’s Day
On Friday October 11 all the students of YCIS Chongqing came together to celebrate the annual Founder’s Day.
Celebrating Chongyang Festival
The Chongyang Festival is on the 9th day of September according to the Chinese lunar calendar. "Nine" is set as a positive number, and on the 9th of September we celebrate Chongyang, also known as Chongjiu (Double nine). On this day, Chinese people enjoy the beauty of chrysanthemums, drink chrysanthemum wine and eat Chongyang cakes. After the 20th century, China has designated this day as the festival for the elderly, advocated by all of society to establish a culture of respect towards the elderly, respecting and helping one’s elders.
