Parent Workshop II – How Do We Learn from Play

Positive connections between parents and school have been shown to improve children’s academic achievement, social competencies and emotional well-being. When parents and teachers work as partners, children do better in school and at home.

Research shows that when a partnership approach between parents and the school is evident, children’s work habits, attitudes about school and grades improve. They demonstrate better social skills, fewer behavioral problems and a greater ability to adapt to situations and get along.

Throughout this academic year, we are planning a variety of parent workshops based around ‘learning with your child.’ This provides opportunities for our parents to obtain an in-depth understanding of all aspects of the school, in particular the academic programme.

On 28th October, we welcomed a great number of parents from all year levels, on to campus to join our October Parent Workshop, themed on ‘How do I learn through Play?’ Ms. Becca, one of our ECE teachers led this workshop. She has been working with us in Chongqing for 2 years and demonstrates great passion in Early Childhood Education. She continues to research different areas of learning to continually provide the best for our children in ECE. Her dedication and contribution to the whole ECE Learning Community are very much valued.

During the workshop, Ms. Becca explained each key area of our ECE programme. Highlighting reasons for why and how learning through play is so important and links directly with our approaches in ECE. The parents gained an understanding of each area and how different activities link to the learning outcomes. Ms. Becca also shared with the parents some tips on developing child-adult engagement and ideas for play at home. A section of the workshop invited parents to join in with some hands-on activities and to reflect on the key points that were delivered during this session. We received positive feedback from parents which proved the success of the session.

A huge thanks to Ms. Becca, the ECE team and of course all parents involved in the session. We look forward to seeing you at our November Parent Workshop.
