Collaborate! Collaborate! Collaborate!
Working collaboratively during project work prepares students for modern citizenship and work, as most complex communal, social, and workplace problems are solved by groups, not individuals. Having students work together to achieve a goal helps them recognize the value of the contributions and perspectives of all team members and prepares them for life in the 21st century.
Working in teams on projects requires a variety of skills and expertise. As team members identify and explore their own strengths, weaknesses, and skills, they gain an understanding of how combining the various skills of several individuals contributes to greater success than can be achieved by one person alone. To achieve the team goal, students must capitalize on each member’s strengths and varying perspectives.
The students in Lower Secondary worked hard on their collaborative work. Year 7 children enjoyed working together creating a mural by doodling their ideas. Year 8 contributed to the Mandala mural designing their own colourful and dynamic mandalas.
There are now 3 hopscotches on the Primary playground for the children to play during their recess time. Year 9 collaborated in creating fun hopscotches with a great enthusiasm and are very proud of themselves.
Getting the students to work together on a group masterpiece is so rewarding, because it encourages teamwork, develops patience and respect, stimulates critical thinking, promotes leadership skills, fosters peer learning and a lot more.
