Celebrating Duanwu Festival
The annual Duanwu Festival, also called Double Fifth Festival, is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth moon of the lunar calendar. It is one of the most important events on the Chinese calendar. In the week of June 3–6, students in Year 7–9 participated in Dragon Boat Races and a Duanwu Puzzle Competition to celebrate this traditional Festival.
The Dragon Boat Race was based on the traditional dragon boat that students researched before designing and constructing their own dragon boats with amazing teamwork. They then raced their boats, in friendly competition, which was enjoyed by all. The Duanwu Puzzle Competition involved students searching for hidden puzzle pieces in their classrooms, which were joined to form a beautiful Duanwu picture. These activities aim to help students develop a deeper understanding of Duanwu customs, learning Chinese culture associated with this special event while developing the ability of team effectively.
In the atmosphere of a traditional Chinese festival, students not only gain a greater understanding of the traditional Chinese customs but also enjoyed the creative opportunity these activities provided.
