    • Even the rain couldn’t stop the YCIS Chongqing Sports Days taking place this year. There was much anticipation in the air from both our Primary and Secondary students as they arrived on Thursday and Friday morning for their respective Sports Days. Who was going to be the fastest, jump the highest, throw the furthest were the questions going through the minds of our most competitive students while others were simply looking forward to spending the day with their friends and trying their best in all of the competitions.

Thursday provided the opportunity for our Primary students to ‘have a go for real’ at the sports they had been practicing on the lead up to the day. Our Secondary students from the Athletic Committee looked resplendent in their official uniforms as they supported, guided and officiated all of our events, it was a fantastic opportunity to develop their leadership skills and they really excelled. From relay races to high jump, from fitness to rugby, our students competed in twelve different activities throughout the morning. In the afternoon, our upper Primary students took part in various team sports. In the late afternoon, all of the Primary students came together for the awards ceremony, students were rewarded and recognised not just for their athletic prowess, but also their abilities to collaborate, be responsible and be a good sportsperson.

Our Secondary students gathered on Friday, primed and ready to share their athletic skills. This was a great opportunity for the students to put their books away and enjoy the opportunity to participate in some physical activity, but there was also a touch of sadness, this would be the final Sports Day for our Year 13 students before they head off to university. The weather held and the students were able to get outside and compete in track and field events. The final events of the day were our House Basketball and Football tournaments, there were some amazing skills on display as house pride was being ‘fought for’. The day was drawn to a close with our awards ceremony, there were questions to be answered, who were our individual winners, which house would be successful?

These two wonderful days of sport and physical activity couldn’t have been possible without amazing organisation from our PE team and students from the Athletic Committee, great teamwork over two days of sport!
