December 7, 2011
On November 25, 2011, participants in YCIS Chongqing’s Cross Country Carnival were treated to an unseasonably warm and (almost) sunny day, adding to their genuine excitement (and perhaps some nerves).
While Phoenix House won the inaugural Cross Country Cup in 2009, Dragon House won the Cross Country Cup in 2010, and also took home the Athletics Carnival trophy the same year. Students from Phoenix House certainly felt it was time for revenge and the efforts of both Houses in that morning’s carnival showed the tremendous rivalry that was quickly building between the teams.
The carnival saw some fantastic individual performances from some students who love running. For many of these able long-distance runners, “the further the better” is their mantra, and some of them looked like they could go around the course a second time.
For other students, the distance was a struggle, both physically and mentally, and we are proud of these students for their efforts to complete the race (many in personal best times) and earn much needed points for their teams.
The Cross Country Carnival is built around the concept of “doing your personal best” and is an inclusive event for all students. Congratulations to Phoenix House for their narrow victory this year. We are certain that next year Dragon House will be plotting their revenge.
