| This Child, a mini-musical, was presented as part of the YCIS Chongqing Christmas concert on December 16. The original script was modified to include a short play called Cinderfella, written by Mrs. Nellie Koh--a reinvention of Cinderella but this time with a "fella" and a Christmas message.
The evening commenced with the audience first being entertained by 10 Primary students playing tambourines and dancing to Come on Ring those Bells. The performance set the scene for an evening that would cumulate in everyone being invited to Heaven's party to celebrate the birth of Jesus.
This Child, with the help of the Secondary School's actors and the narrator, took the audience back to the announcement by the prophets of the coming birth of the Messiah-- Jesus.
The audience then journeyed to the streets of Bethlehem where they met a few of the more "colourful" townsfolk of Bethlehem, along with some "grotty" shepherds, and the owners of Nathan's Inn--Nathan and Miriam.
While in Bethlehem, a visit to the town centre was made to watch the live performance of Cinderfella. Cinderfella was performed by the Primary School's drama team.
The usual characters from the nativity scene--Mary and Joseph, the wise men, the amazing angels and the stable animals--also appeared in the performance.
Mixing all these with vibrant choir singing, humour and the birth of Jesus created an evening that both inspired and entertained.
During the performance, parents received a ginger bread house from their children, and students a ginger bread tree from their teachers to remind everyone Christmas is a time for giving, as on the first Christmas when God gave his own son, Jesus, as a gift to save the world.
The evening was concluded with supper giving everyone the opportunity to wish one another a happy and peaceful Christmas. |
