What is the Placement Deposit? What is it used for?
The Placement Deposit is a one-time, refundable, non-interest bearing deposit required to secure your child(ren)'s place when you accept the offer of placement issued by the school.The purpose of the Placement Deposit is two-fold:
Do I have to pay the Placement Deposit every year?
No. Placement Deposit is a one-time payment required upon accepting the offer of placement issued by the school. Current 07-08 students would need to pay the Placement Deposit before May 15, 2008.
My company sponsors our child(ren)’s education expenses, will this be covered?
Different companies have different policies on education sponsorship. It is recommended that parents check with their employer’s HR department on related issues.
What sort of official document will I get in return once I paid the Placement Deposit to the school?
Once a Placement Deposit is received, we issue a receipt. Please keep this receipt as you will need to return this receipt when we refund the Placement Deposit.
“Fa piao” will not be issued for payment of Placement Deposits because the Placement Deposit is not considered an income of the school. It is a non-interest bearing deposit to be refunded upon your child(ren)’s completion of education with Yew Chung or withdrawal.
Does the Placement Deposit guarantee a place at the school?
Payment of a Placement Deposit will not, in and of itself, guarantee a school placement; all other admission and school requirements still must be met. The Placement Deposit guarantees the student’s re-enrolment until the following term’s fee or the following year’s fees are due.
Will the Placement Deposit be credited against Tuition Fee?
Unlike the Reservation Fee, the Placement Deposit will not be credited against Tuition Fee. The Placement Deposit serves as the student’s guarantee of re-enrolment until the following term or following year’s tuition fees are due. The school however reserves the right, but is under no obligation, to apply the Placement Deposit to settle any amounts unpaid owing to the school.
Does the Placement Deposit apply to an internal transfer student?
Each of our school is independently registered and operated. All fees are subject to the new school attended. Currently the placement deposit system is implemented for all YCIS schools in Mainland China. In case of an internal transfer within Mainland China, your child(ren)’s Placement Deposit will be transferred to the new school attended. Adjustment of Placement Deposit amount may be required. If a student is an internal transfer from YCIS Schools in Hong Kong or Silicon Valley to YCIS schools in Mainland China, a Placement Deposit is required.
When does your school year start and finish?
The School Year starts in mid August and finishes late June.
Where is the school located?
Yew Chung International School - Chongqing is located at No. 2, Huxia Street, Yuan Yang Town, New Northern Zone, Chongqing 401122, P.R.C.
Does the school provide school bus transportation to the schools?
Yew Chung provides an extensive bus service for all its schools. Currently the school runs three school buses and they cover most housing estates and international hotels where children currently live.
What are your school hours?School starts at 8:30 a.m. and finishes at 3:30 p.m. The starting and finishing times may change slightly from one school year to another.
Do you accept new students during the school year?
Although the school encourages parents to seek admission for their son or daughter before the start of each school year, it will consider the application of a student subject to the availability of space and the results of the placements tests. However, should a student need to transfer from either theYCIS Beijing, YCIS Hong Kong, YCIS Silicon Valley or YCIS Shanghai, during the school year, the transfer will be honoured subject to the availability of class space.
What are the class sizes?
Yew Chung International Schools have always enjoyed a very low student-teacher ratio. The student-teacher ratio is simply defined as the number of students per teacher in the school. The student-teacher ratio includes both Western and Chinese staff. Every effort is made to keep all Yew Chung class sizes well below the average of public and other private schools. Our current class sizes are less than 20.
Do your students wear school uniforms?
Yes, uniforms are compulsory and more information is available in the "About Us" - Uniforms section
Uniform Orders?
Students receive a full set of uniform upon enrolment and is included in the first year fee. Subsequent orders are handled by our Admissions Officer and uniform stocks are kept at school.
Does your school provide hot lunches?
The school coordinates with an outside catering service company to provide warm lunches for students who do not wish to bring a packed lunch to school. Charges will be processed under a separate payment method between parents and the catering company.
What supplies are needed to bring to school?
The school provides all stationery, text books and learning materials. Students can bring their own drinks, snacks etc.
What happens during the first week of school?
If the student has limited English then an assessment may be carried out at this time. Academic testing is also undertaken to ascertain subject knowledge.Teachers are very aware that the first week can be a time of uncertainty. They are very welcoming and will make your child feel a part of our school "family" as quickly as possible.
What amount of homework should students expect?
While some homework is assigned for practising skills and ideas learned during a school day, homework is designed to be interesting and developmental. The amount assigned varies depending on the age and the class level of the student. For example, students in Lower Primary classes may be given 15 - 30 minutes whereas students in the Upper Primary may have 30 - 60 minutes of homework a day. When students are not assigned homework, they are encouraged to read for enjoyment. A book every two to three days should be the goal.
What type of curriculum is offered?
We use the National Curriculum for England. Details are available at www.nc.uk.net
Secondary Curriculum
As this is a new school and student numbers do not yet allow for a full secondary teaching staff, we have an agreement with the University of Nebraska's Independent High School to supply a U.S. High School Diploma programme. All materials are sent to the student from Nebraska and our school provides a secondary teacher to fully supervise your child. Similarly, we have experience of using an Australian distance learning High School to supply an accredited high school course.
Do you guarantee places for students in your schools?
Yew Chung Education Foundation is committed to providing a "through train" education to its students. This means that current students are given priority to a place in the next class and the next school. Thus a student is guaranteed - assuming satisfactory academic progress, satisfactory behavior, timely payment of the fees, and availability of space - to continue his or her studies in a Yew Chung school.
In addition, Yew Chung Education Foundation guarantees the easy transfer of students from one school in the Foundation to another. To facilitate the move, the present school will arrange for the transfer of a student's school records and the transfer of the balance of unused school fees.
What colleges and universities do your students attend?
Yew Chung students have been accepted into secondary level colleges and tertiary universities in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia.
Can you guarantee a place for my child at a college or university?
This is a commonly asked question by parents at information meetings and during interviews. Yew Chung prides itself in how it prepares students for university entrance and university studies and commits itself to providing a curriculum of studies that nurtures, guides and strengthens the aptitudes and abilities of each student toward this goal. If a student's dream is to go to university, Yew Chung is committed to providing the appropriate learning environment, encouragement and support in making it happen. In addition, the school will use its good connections through the Foundations' International Education Services Office to obtain university placements for students.
Studies on academic achievement show that if parents provide role models that are supportive of learning, their children are more likely to be successful at school.
